Deirdre Heekin & Caleb Barber
Deirdre Heekin and Caleb Barber are the proprietors and, respectively, wine director and head chef of Osteria Pane e Salute, a boutique restaurant and wine bar in Woodstock, Vermont, recently acclaimed in Bon Appétit, The Boston Globe, Travel and Leisure, and Attaché. Heekin and Barber grow most of their own produce in addition to working with local farm partners.
In Libation: A Bitter Alchemy, Heekin shares a brilliantly engaging memoir describing the curiosity and education of her nose and palate; guiding us through her attempts to make wine and liqueurs from her own land. Deirdre’s writing has won numerous awards including Best Food Writing in 2005, Nominee for the Pushcart Prize, Italo Calvino Award in Fiction, and the Best Non-fiction Book of the Year in 2002 by the Vermont Book Publishing Association.
