Don Livermore
Hiram Walker & Sons distillery’s Master Blender Dr. Don Livermore was born in Fordwich, ON —a small town one hour north of Waterloo. From a young age, he showed a keen interest in microbiology, an interest which was inspired and encouraged by one of his high school teachers. Don obtained his Bachelor’s degree in microbiology from the University of Waterloo and went on to complete a master’s degree before obtaining his PhD in brewing and distillation from Heriot-Watt University.
His career began as a microbiologist in quality assurance at Hiram Walker & Sons. From there he would go on to work in research and product development for 11 years, before taking the helm as Master Blender in early January of 2012.
A pioneer in analytic techniques using infrared sensors in the brewing and distilling industry, Dr. Don Livermore wrote a chapter in The Alcohol Textbook (4th Edition), an industry reference standard for scientists and engineers.
Today, Dr. Don Livermore is credited with creating some of the best whisky that Canada has to offer.
