Colin Alevras

Chef Colin Alevras possesses unbridled passion for everything food, wine and spirits related. After graduating from Peter Kump's NY Cooking School (now known as ICE The Institute for Culinary Education), Colin both traveled to Paris to apprentice in the 3 Star Micheline rated Arpege. After returning to New York, Colin worked as a private chef to a UN ambassador while he and his wife, Renee, began preparations to open their own restaurant.

The husband and wife team opened The Tasting Room Wine Bar & Café in November 1999 with a vision of great American wines paired with innovative cuisine created with the freshest local ingredients. After years of success, they recently opened The Tasting Room Restaurant on Elizabeth Street, and the original location at 72 East First Street has new life as a café and wine bar. At both locations, they focus on using local and sustainable, farmer-driven ingredients to create an ever-changing menu of fresh, simple yet decadent fare. Colin has become a Greenmarket fixture as he shops daily for that evening’s offerings. He has also developed relationships with local farmers with whom he closely works to grow and raise specialty products for his dishes.

Colin and Renée have two children and live in the East Village.
