In this course, participants will review basic tasting skills as well as learn various approaches to wine and food pairing. Through lecture and tastings during Basics of Wine & Food Pairing, you will: * Gain an understanding of the effect service temperature has on a wine?s character. * Learn how the characteristics of the vineyard and winery affect a wine?s style. * Analyze the different flavor components of wines. * Examine the basic styles of some of the most popular grape varieties and regions as well as some ?off the beaten path? wines. * Review the verbiage most commonly used to describe successful wine and food pairings. * Consider all the flavor and textural components that affect a dish?s wine pairing partners. * Taste 12 wines with different foods and discuss the scientific and subjective reactions of your fellow students and instructor.
