Do you find yourself at a loss for words when describing what it is you look for in a glass of wine? Are you unsure of what, exactly, it is that you’re tasting? Do you over-use the word “dry”? Do you want to feel confident in using terms such as “tannins”, “oak” and “earthy”?

This class on the “Language of Taste” will define your taste in wine, teach you the vernacular involved in describing what you’re experiencing, and allow you to articulate what you want in your next glass of wine.

Starting with white wines and then progressing into reds, we will taste specific examples of wines side-by-side in order to compare and contrast the differences between them. The goal is to use words to describe and define what you find in the wine. Everything will be tasted “blind” in order to remove any biases and preconceived notions. Each wine will also have a list of descriptors in order to help associate the flavors to words that are commonly used.

To test our newly formed skill, we will conclude the class with one last blind taste test (hint: this isn’t going to be easy).

By the end of class you will have experienced many “ah-ha!” moments. But, more importantly, you will gain a new understanding of your ability to taste. The class will combine the characteristics with the vocabulary so that you will be able to communicate like a pro and, in the end, drink better. Because isn’t that what it is really all about?

Cheers!
